We Tried Kubo’s Free Trial Class on Reading, Filipino Sign Language, and More

    Hi, Bagong Nanay!

Patapos na ang summer vacation ng ating kids, and as a nanay of an incoming Grade 2, andiyan na yung thoughts like, “Paano na kaya this school year? Maging as bibo kaya siya as before? What if mahirapan siya?”

But then, we’ll never know! We take it one day at a time, and we’ll arrive at the end for sure, feeling proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

For now, I wanted to share with you about an online learning platform I discovered recently. I received an email from Mommy Ericka Gonzales Macasaquit, founder of Kubo Learning Center, earlier this month. She offered my 6-year-old a free trial class! They offer online classes on Reading in English and Filipino, Mathematics, and Filipino Sign Language, among others. The last one piqued our interest.

When Lia was younger, we loved reading a book entitled Every Sunday, written by Och Gonzalez and illustrated by CJ Reynaldo. It tells about the story of Kuya Berto, an ice cream vendor who is Deaf. A little girl started learning how to sign so she can order ice cream from him. Thus, may interest and context na si Lia about sign language and the Deaf community.

Kaya when she tried the 20-minute Filipino Sign Language online trial class with Kubo, she loved it a lot, and we wanted to take additional classes!

Bagong Nanay Reviews: Kubo Learning Center

    1-on-1 class

What we loved about the session is that it was customized for the child. Before the session, they sent me a list of questions to answer about my child so that they can tailor-fit the class for her. We’ve tried group online classes before, and medyo kagulo siya. But this one, it’s one-on-one so it really held space for the child to focus and learn.

    No-fuss free trial class

After sending the details, Kubo sent me a Google Calendar with the video call link. On the day, I just set up my laptop with a webcam in a quiet room with Lia, and on her scheduled time, the teacher started the class without needing my help.

The teacher was kind and communicative

What I loved about Kubo’s class is that Teacher Q was good at communicating with children. Based on his background, he’s only 20 years old, and he instantly connected with my daughter. He explained the instructions well and proceeded with the lesson smoothly. There was no dull moment and he was interacting with her throughout the 20-minute class.

The trial class was informative enough!

I was surprised that after 20 minutes, my daughter was able to understand why it’s important to learn how to sign in Filipino, know and remember how to sign vowels, and have her own sign name. After the class, my daughter got her journal and took notes! So cute.

If we plan to proceed with the full session, Kubo will send the full lesson plan with the rates. You may choose lang from the sessions what you like or take the whole course.

Watch Lia’s full review on TikTok here.

    Our verdict: Must-try!

Talking to Mommy Ericka, who is a mom of two and business consultant based in California, USA, she started Kubo to make her kids familiar and stay connected with the Filipino culture and heritage, even when they are growing abroad.

“Every class was tested by my kids to make sure that they are valuable,” she said. “We made Kubo classes online, so that they can learn comfortably from home, wherever they are in the world.”

A Bagong Nanay Tested 11 Newborn Diaper Brands for Her Baby—Here’s Her Review

    Hi, Bagong Nanay!

So in our Bagong Nanay Viber group, a mom shared that she’s selling trial packs of diapers for newborn. I asked her if she wanted to share her review with Bagong Nanay so more moms would know, and she happily shared her detailed diaper review.

Mommy Quincherville Villanueva is a Bagong Nanay of a 6-week-old baby. She’s a pastry chef, too! She told Bagong Nanay that she wanted to try different diaper brands before buying a lot because she wanted to know which would work best for her budget and for her baby. “I realized through this na affordable doesn’t always mean better for the budget. The more premium ones requires less diaper changes and less leaks and blowouts,” she said.

So here’s Mommy Quincherville’s review of 10 diaper brands, Bagong Nanays. Sharing is caring, indeed!

11 Newborn Diaper Brands Review by Bagong Nanay Quincherville Villanueva

    Legend:

🌙 – great for daytime and nightime
☀️ – great for daytime use
    🛒 – Affordable
    💵 – Pricey
    💦 – No leak
    🪽- cotton soft

    1. Kleenfant ☀️🛒🪽

Price is affordable. Interior and exterior has a nice cotton feel. Comparable to cloth diapers. Ideal for babies with sensitive skin. This diaper is ideal for daytime use. Gets full pretty quickly. Has a pee indicator but no back garter or stretch. Potential to leak upwards.

Personal Rating based on experience: 6/10

    2. Inspi Babies ☀️🛒🪽

Price is affordable. Interior and exterior has a nice cotton feel. Ideal for babies with sensitive skin. Comparable to cloth diapers but lesser quality than Kleenfant but almost similar feel (same manufacturing). This diaper is ideal for daytime use. Gets full pretty quickly. Has a pee indicator but no back garter or stretch as well. Potential to leak upwards.

Personal Rating based on experience: 6/10

      3. Huggies Skin Perfect 💦🛒🌙

Price is unexpectedly affordable for an international brand. Interior is soft but unlike Inspi Babies and Kleenfant, the texture is not cotton-soft like cloth diapers. This is a good option for sensitive skin babies for overnight use. Has a pee indicator and a stretchy back. Great for wide butt babies.

Personal Rating based on experience: 8/10

      4. Unilove Airpro 🪽🛒☀️

Price is affordable. The diaper has a light cottony texture perfect for the hot weather. This diaper tends to get full easily so it is recommended for daytime use. The diaper is also ideal for photoshoots since the diaper is thin, it won’t show up under costumes. They also have smaller sized diapers for preemie babies which is uncommon. Unlike Inspi Babies and Kleenfant, this diaper has a stretchy back and a pee indicator as well.

Personal Rating based on experience: 7/10

      5. Moosegear 💦🛒☀️🪽

Price for quality is really good. It is affordable and has a good cottony feel. Ideal for babies with sensitive skin. Works great during the day. Can be used at night but tends to get full easily if with poop. I used this the longest for my baby before trying more premium brands worked great and did not hurt my budget. Sizing is quite small so don’t buy too much of one size.

Personal Rating based on experience: 8/10

      6. Baby Pal 🛒☀️

I saw these online and they are one of the cheapest in the market. Usually sold as buy 1, get 1. If your mindset is diapers don’t need to be high quality because it will just be thrown out, then this is for you. It is really a low quality diaper with a more plasticky feel. It is very thin and not great with absorbing poop. I was just curious to try it because it offered a good price. If you plan to use this, save it for a day time diaper and buy a better quality one for night time use. Has a pee indicator.

Personal Rating based on experience: 1/10

      7. Aiwibi 🌙💵🪽

Quite pricey but branded as premium diapers. Softest diaper I have tried. Great for very sensitive skin. It has an absorbent layer that absorbs the poop so cleanup is alot easier since less poop tends to stay on the skin. Can be used for night time and can tolerate pee however, if there is alot of poop it tends to leak. No garterized back so tendency to leak towards the back can happen. Has a pee indicator

Personal Rating based on experience: 7/10

      8. Hoppi Royal 🌙💵🪽💦

Quite pricey but branded as premium diapers. Texture is close to Huggies Skin Perfect but way softer but not as soft as Aiwibi. Great for very sensitive skin. Similar to Aiwibi, it has an absorbent layer that absorbs the poop so cleanup is a lot easier since almost no poop tends to stay on the skin. Great for nighttime use. No leaks and sizing is not small. Has a pee indicator and garterized back.

Personal Rating based on experience: 10/10

      9. Rascals 💵🌙💦

Quite pricey but branded as premium diapers. Interior texture is soft but exterior feels a bit plastic for me. It has an absorbent layer that absorbs the poop so cleanup is a lot easier since less poop tends to stay on the skin. Great for nighttime use. No leaks but sizing is quite small. Has a pee indicator and garterized back.

Personal Rating based on experience: 9/10

      10. EQ Premium 🌙💵💦

Quite pricey but branded as premium diapers. Interior and Exterior texture is soft. Similar to the premium diapers above, it has an absorbent layer that absorbs the poop so cleanup is a lot easier since less poop tends to stay on the skin. Great for nighttime use. No leaks if you buy the correct size but sizing is quite small so don’t buy too much of one size. Has a pee indicator and garterized back. Cute design, too.

Personal Rating based on experience: 9/10

      11. Millie Moon 🌙💵💦

Quite pricey but branded as premium. Texture feels similar to EQ Premium. It has an absorbent layer that absorbs the poop so cleanup is a lot easier since almost no poop tends to stay on the skin. Great for nighttime use. No leaks and great for nightime use. Has a pee indicator and garterized back.

Personal Rating based on experience: 10/10

      Newborn Diaper Brands Review Summary

Personally, I prefer Hoppi Royal and Millie Moon. The quality justifies the price. However, every baby is different so it really boils down to which your baby prefers. Thankfully my baby does not have any sensitivities so I was able to try all these brands and be able to share with everyone the pros and cons of each without any biases.

Everything I have shared here is mainly based on our experience. I purchased several brands trying to figure out which brand will work for my baby and not break the bank. I sell trial packs with these brands for you to find out yourself which will work for your baby. I am just sharing my experience with these brands for you to have an idea of which might work out for you but it is best to try the diapers on your child than merely basing on reviews. Hope this helps!

    1. ‘Holding Both’ is a book for Bagong Nanays

‘Holding Both’ is a book for Bagong Nanays

      Hi, Bagong Nanay!

Kumusta? Just a quick life update, I just got hired last January 14, and it’s a remote job that I prayed for. As you know, I resigned from my previous job to be a full-time Bagong Nanay again. Kaya I’m so happy na, ika nga sa Threads, “pinagresign ako ni Lord.” I know, God gave me this job – fully remote, flexible, and same timezone lang because it’s Hong Kong-based. (Chat nalang tayo for more deets).

Anyway, I mentioned that because as a millennial mom, sobrang taas ng guilt level ko kapag nahahati yung oras ko as an employee and as a mom. Parang it’s either – mag-resign ako and be a full-time mom, or mag-work ako but always think about resigning every day. Kayo din ba?

Holding Both by Chesca Susmerano Review

Kaya when I read this book, Holding Both, written by Chesca Susmerano, founder of Studio Maria and a good friend, I was affirmed that it’s valid to feel both of these feelings. Yung guilt pati yung joy, yung longing na mag-work pero ma-enjoy din yung tambay lang sa bahay with kids. Reading the first few pages of the book, I had to stop and take a screenshot, cry, and message Chesca how I felt so seen and so understood just by reading. Lalo na when I read this line:

“You’re allowed to drop some things but not forever.”

Talagang, iyak malaley sa bed. Reading that line, carefully and thoughtfully written by Chesca, sabi ko, grabe yung feelings ko of guilt for not working, wala akong contribution sa bahay financially, wala akong pambili ng mga gamit na gusto ko for myself, pero this is not forever. Ang bilis lang niya actually. And mas naiyak ako sa part na, being with our young children na lagi nating kabunong-braso pag babalik ka na sa laptop mo or aalis ka going to office, is also not forever.

An easy read, unputdownable for moms

So I continued reading the book. 63 pages lang siya. Actually, it was meant to be read one chapter at a time. Pero sobrang easy and relatable read niya na I read it bago matulog, habang tulog na ang mga anak ko. Naisip ko nga, posible palang magbasa ng libro kahit may dalawang anak! Buti nalang, Chesca made it an e-book, sobrang convenient basahin ng mommies whenever and wherever.

Tapos napa-stop na naman ako dito sa page where Chesca talked about the sacrifices she did as a mother, being the career woman she used to be before being a Bagong Nanay. If you also resigned from your job to be a full-time mom, grabe yung page 17, I’m telling you. I’m not going to spoil because you have to read it on your own.

Then sa page 20, yung affirmation ni Chesca that whatever we are doing for our children, no matter how small or mundane, matters, wala na. I lost it. Seriously, Holding Both is unputdownable. Hooked na hooked ako.

An affordable, necessary gift for moms

Reading my screenshots of the book now, I’m getting goosebumps. Meron pa akong isang page na twice ko iniscreenshot because it’s so good. Yes, instead of a book na i-Stabilo para maalala, sa e-book you can screenshot so you can always remember. You will always be reminded. Kasi as moms, need natin ng daily reminder that we are doing okay. That we will be okay. That we are enough.

That’s why I encourage you to buy the book, and read it for yourself, or gift it to another Bagong Nanay, may occasion man o wala. I know, 6 years na ako as a nanay, and I thought I know it all – yang mental health, self-care, guilt – akala ko gets ko na yan. Not until I read Holding Both, para akong na-refresh as a mom. Parang na-encourage ako to be myself, to not hide, to not play small anymore. And I hope all of us moms realize this too. That we are doing sacred work as a mom, and we didn’t become less of a person when we gave up our jobs and became a mother.

My honest review of Holding Both, hehe.

Milk Tea Confessions: Conversation Cards review

And it’s important to have a village. If there’s one thing I will always remember when I sought professional help, it’s that moms need a strong support system. Hindi mo kailangang maging part ng Facebook group na may libu-libong members. Minsan, sapat na yung may chatgroup ka of four moms who are in the same season as you. Yung hindi ka ija-judge pag sinabi mong nahulog sa bed yung anak mo. Yung gets ka pag naiiinis ka sa husband mo na matagal sa CR. Yung pwede mo makausap about faith, about rage, about anything.

I’m happy that we are growing our Bagong Nanay Viber community (ask me for the link). Mommy Charlotte Silva and I started this group way back pandemic era, nung uso yung group chats at pa-Lalamove ng mga stuff. Kasi may nag-close na isang mommy chatgroup, eh parehas kaming bagong nanay noon, at yun ang source namin ng info. Now, with Bagong Nanay group getting bigger, we get to hold meetups na din.

Last January, we held our first Bagong Nanay Milktea Meetup in Molito, Alabang. Ang saya, hindi pa kami maka-move on. Pito lang kaming moms na nagmeet, pero it was enough. We were meant to be there, all 7 of us. And during our meetup, we used Chesca’s Milk Tea Confessions: Conversation Cards! It’s a freebie when you buy the Holding Both book through her website.

If you are a mom and you’re going to meet up with your mom friends and you want to make the most of your very limited time, use the Milk Tea Confessions: Conversation Cards para hindi naman puro chismisan or “Anong diaper gamit niyo?” ang topic. Makabuluhan naman sana, please.

What Bagong Nanays say about the Milk Tea Confessions: Conversation Cards

Bagong Nanay Milktea Meetup @ The South!

Here’s what the Bagong Nanay mamas said about their experience using the Milk Tea Confessions: Conversation Cards during our meetup.

“I sometimes feel awkward initiating conversations with new people but the Confession Cards served as an effective icebreaker! I like that I get to really know the moms using the reflective questions and relatable prompts that were provided. It’s interactive, and thought-provoking. It helped us connect genuinely throughout the whole Milk Tea Meetup.” –Mommy Camille Chua

“It gently opened the door to the kind of heartful conversations we don’t always get to have in everyday mom life. It wasn’t just small talk—it was real stories, shared emotions, and that comforting feeling of “me too.” So grateful for the space it created.” -Mommy Kyla Magbag

“The idea is so clever and the experience of bringing these conversation cards to the table (with the right circle) is surely refreshing!

I think it’s a must-have for every mom meetups. My momma heart is happy. Ang saya to bring back the beautiful art of conversation while sharing a fave drink during gatherings, than just randomly checking stuff on our phones.

Sana soon meron ding family conversation cards and kids convo cardsss.” -Mommy Cess Arnaiz

    2. Joolz Aer2 Stroller Review: Is It Worth the Investment?

Joolz Aer2 Stroller Review: Is It Worth the Investment?

This review is based on our personal experience.

      Hi, Bagong Nanay!

We just got home from our 15-day trip to Guam, USA, our first out-of-the-country trip as a family of four. One of our travel essentials was a stroller – alam ko kasing we’ll be going to do a lot of walking and shopping so it’s a must-have!

We brought with us the Joolz Aer2 Lightweight Stroller in Sandy Taupe, currently priced at P33,999. It was named the best travel stroller by Forbes in 2025, so the question is, in this economy, worth it ba talaga?

      Here’s our honest review.

Bagong Nanay Reviews: Joolz Aer2 Lightweight Stroller in Sandy Taupe

      Specs:

      Weight: 6.5kg or 14.3lbs

      When folded: 17.3 x 20.8 x 9.2 inches

      Weight limit: 22.7kg or 50lbs

      One-hand, one-second easy fold

As Bagong Nanays, marami tayong na-unlock na skills na kaya nating gawin with one hand. Habang buhat si baby, kayang abutin ang remote, kayang magluto, and many more. Kaya perfect yung Joolz Aer2 because it can fold with one hand. Yes! Para sa ating mga nanay na madami nang iniisip, gusto natin yung stroller na chill lang. Bukod sa it can fold with one hand, it stands once it is folded.

      Five-point harness

Nung nasa Smart Parenting pa ako, I was able to interview a pediatrician about what parents should look for before buying a stroller. Dr. Joey Cuayo-Estanislao mentioned two things: the stroller should have an effective braking system and a five-point harness.

Joolz Aer2 has this, kaya talagang sold ako. Why? Yung three-point harness kasi ang common sa mga strollers. Pero yung five-point harness also secured the child’s shoulders, kaya malaking bagay siya especially during sudden stops. Dun palang check na si Joolz Aer2.

      Compact as a carry-on

Since it was our first trip abroad, nakita namin kung paano ang kalakaran when you bring a stroller on the plane. In our experience with Philippine Airlines, you may use the stroller up to the boarding gate, then leave it with the staff so they can check it in. Although with the Joolz Aer2, since sobrang compact niya when folded and comes with a handy drawstring bag, we brought it to the plane and placed it in our overhead cabin para hindi siya ma-damage along with the other baggages. Check na check!

Pasok din ang weight niya sa carry-on (at 6kg) kasi talagang airplane compatible siya.

      Perfect for naps

Moms of toddlers would know (lalo na boys) na nap times are sacred. Hindi pwedeng mainterrupt ito at hindi pwedeng ipagpaliban ito. Kaya we loved how spacious the Joolz Aer2 was when my son napped. It has a lie-flat recline kaya talagang relaxed si baby. Yun talaga ang pakay namin for the stroller kasi it’s hard to go around na buhat-buhat palagi lalo pag pagod na.

At pag gising na siya and bored na sa stroller, sobrang spacious ng Joolz to carry your other items (even your other child!). It also has a big basket for more stuff, like diaper bag, tumbler, etc.

      Easy to maneuver

Walang problem kaming na-encounter when steering the stroller even in tight spaces (like store aisles). Smooth lang ang ride just as how it should be.

Plus points that the Sandy Taupe color is so aesthetic, it’s really a headturner sa ibang parents. I also saw other parents at the airport with their Joolz strollers, so proven and tested talaga na it’s a travel must-have!

Real-talk: Not the easiest to clean

Before using the stroller, we had to have it cleaned kasi it came from storage. While there are available stroller cleaners that I found around the metro (Urban Essentials in Quezon City and Domestic Diva in BF Homes Almanza), it costs around Php 950-2000. So my husband removed the fabrics and we cleaned it on our own. Medyo nahirapan siya to reassemble but we found a helpful video online specifically for Joolz Aer2.

But if you bought a new one, just wipe it clean!

      The verdict

So is the Joolz Aer2 worth its price?

Yes, given the safety, comfort, and peace it gives, it’s worth it. Especially if you plan on traveling a lot with your child, it’s a must-have. As a mom who also purchased a Doona car seat and stroller in one, I must say, investment siya. Iba talaga ang quality ng Joolz over other strollers na trendy lang and flimsy.

However, I recommend that you let professional cleaners do the deep cleaning as necessary kasi nga medyo tricky i-remove and ibalik yung fabrics. Spare yourself from the headache, you might do that once or twice a year siguro at most!

Overall, it’s a Bagong Nanay-approved stroller. I hope we could travel again soon and bring the Joolz Aer2 with us. Ang dami na naming core memories together, and I can’t wait to make some more.

Thank you so much, Joolz PH!

Why a Bagong Nanay Needs a Scalp Care Day, ASAP

If you are a new mom and you haven’t tried Meinas’ 7-Step Scalp Treatment, this is your sign to make time for it.

Hi, Bagong Nanay! Kumusta? Ako, eto, busy-busyhan. Kaka-soft launch ko lang ng bagong business namin sa social media: Laro Tayo Kids! Inflatable and mobile play space rental siya, perfect for playdates, birthday parties, o kahit walang okasyon! Check it out here.

Speaking of bago, last week, I tried the 7-Step Professional Scalp Treatment at Meinas Scalp Solutions. Kakaopen lang nila ng bagong branch nila sa SM Mall of Asia! May branch rin sila sa SM North EDSA Annex, kaya I tried their scalp treatment for the first time. All I can say is: TRY NIYO RIN.

Bagong Nanay Reviews: Meinas 7-Step Scalp Treatment

So yes, I’m here to convince you to try their 7-Step Scalp Treatment for yourself because you deserve it! If you are any or all of these Bagong Nanays, then go for it!

      1. Hindi ka nakakaligo every day.

Gets kita, Bagong Nanay. Ako rin, before my treatment with Meinas, hindi ako daily naliligo. Ang excuse ko, walang time dahil may baby.

Pero did you know that neglecting hygiene is a sign of depression? Iyan ang kinonfirm sa aking ng aking psychologist when I first consulted a professional for my mental health. Especially nung nakita ko kung anong status ng scalp ko dahil hindi ako naliligo, nakakadiri! May fungus, microbes, at chemical residue na pala sa anit ko! Huhu.

Avail niyo na yung FREE scalp consultation ng MEINAS, and see it for yourself.

Meinas offers free scalp consultation in their branches, kaya talagang makikita mo yung magiging difference after the treatment. Kaya go mo na ‘yan.

My first scalp care treatment at MEINAS SM North EDSA Annex.

      2. Grabe ka mag-hairfall.

Normal ang 50-100 strands of hair fall per day, ayon sa Healthline.

My scalp before and after MEINAS Scalp Treatment!

After one session at Meinas, naging healthy ang scalp ko! Naglabasan din daw yung small hair na hindi makalabas dahil clogged yung pores. Nakakatuwa.

      3. Kailangan mo ng me-time.

Well, lahat ng nanay naman need nito. Pero if you are a Bagong Nanay na wala talagang time for yourself, yung 90-minute scalp treatment na wala kang kasamang kids, sobrang nakaka-recharge siya.

Haha.

With Ms. Jane of Meinas Scalp Solutions

Sulit siya for its price of P2,980. Meron ding packages where you can save up to P3530 if you buy 5 sessions. I’m telling you, it’s the spa we never knew we needed. And remember: Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.

Visit Meinas at SM North EDSA Annex (Lower Ground), Greenhills Mall (5th Floor), and SM Mall of Asia (2F North Wing Main Mall) or their website here.

    5. This Malunggay Juice for Padede Moms has Collagen, Glutathione, and More!

This Malunggay Juice for Padede Moms has Collagen, Glutathione, and More!

      Pero masarap kaya?

      Hi, Bagong Nanay!

Kumusta? Ako, okay naman. As a full-time breastfeeding mom for 10 months now (total of almost five years), I’m always on the lookout for breastmilk boosters. Hindi kasi madali magpadede, kaya kailangan natin ng tulong.

Nasubukan ko na ata most of the malunggay products in the market. Naging reseller din ako during the pandemic ng mga breastfeeding supplements. Fan na fan ako ng malunggay simula high school, kasi isa yan sa naging research topics namin. Haha. Studies also showed that malunggay helps increase breastmilk supply among mothers.

Kaya when I came across a mom’s post on Threads, saying, she and her husband made their own blend of malunggay drink for postpartum recovery and lactation, talagang nag-mental note ako na itatry ko ito. Plus, it is FDA-approved, so it’s a go.

Bagong Nanay Reviews: Cuddle and Coo Malunggay and Acai Berry Drink

So I spoke with Mommy Ara, the mom behind Cuddle and Coo Malunggay and Acai Berry Drink on Instagram. Kuwento niya, she and her friends came up with the formulation, and she’s very happy and proud of her product. Sila ni husband niya rin ang nagpapack ng orders and nagbebenta, so super inspiring!

I bought a sampler pack on her TikTok shop, and received it the next day. A sampler pack has two sachets, and it costs P60.

My 6-year-old Lia poses with our Bagong Nanay haul

      Taste test

Siyempre, family affair ang pag-try namin sa bagong malunggay drink na ito. Si Tatay Kevin kasi, natuwa na merong ingredient na collagen for his joints. Si Lia naman, gusto itry dahil mahilig siya sa juice. Tinry muna namin with cold water and ice, and it’s a treat.

cuddle and coo malunggay and acai berry juice
Packaging of Cuddle and Coo Malunggay and Acai Berry Juice sampler pack

“Lasang berry,” sabi ni Tatay. “It’s so yummy,” naman ang sabi ng aking 6-year-old. For me, masarap siya! Hindi mo agad malalasahan yung malunggay, which sometimes would come off as too herby or strong at aayawan ng iba. Ito, mas berry siya than herby kaya masarap at madali siyang inumin.

      Effective ba sa padede mom?

Before bedtime, tinry ko naman ang hot version ng drink. Dito magkakaalaman, kasi first day ng aking menstrual period. According to doctors, may effect talaga ang period sa milk supply. Dahil sa changes in hormones, naaaffect nito ang breastmilk supply kaya naman perfect timing ang pag-inom ko ng aking malunggay juice.

mug with cuddle and coo malunggay and acai berry juice
My padede mug with hot Cuddle and Coo Malunggay and Acai Berry Juice

Nakailang feeds ang aking baby throughout the night, at nasatisfy ko naman siya. Though I couldn’t prove na yung isang tasa ng malunggay juice ang nakatulong, I must say I wanted to try more para maprove ko na it really helps increase breastmilk supply.

      The verdict

For its price of P30 per serving, iisipin mo agad na medyo pricey siya compared sa competitors niya. Pero when you look at its active ingredients kasi, you’ll realize na sobrang sulit niya.

Aside from malunggay, it has marshmallow root (rich in antioxidants), fernblock (immune system support), milk thistle (prolactin like moringa), goji berry (fiber), collagen (skin elasticity), and L-glutathione (reduced oxidative stress). It’s sweetened by Stevia!

Dahil siksik sa nutrients with a very refreshing taste ang Cuddle and Coo Malunggay and Acai Berry Juice Drink, I highly recommend it to all Bagong Nanays!

Buy Cuddle and Coo Malunggay and Acai Berry Juice on TikTok or chat with them on Instagram.

    6. A Breastfeeding Cover with Built-in Fan? Take My Money

A Breastfeeding Cover with Built-in Fan? Take My Money

      Hi, Bagong Nanay!

Kumusta? So habang nagpapadede ako sa gabi, I came across this ad on Instagram, and I thought it was genius. I tried it, and here’s what I think.

Full disclosure: Hindi ako fan ng nursing covers. Nawala ko kasi yung nag-iisang nursing cover na hand-me-down sa akin ng friend ko. So since then, hindi na ako bumili (as a matipid na mommy). Thinking, bakit kailangan kong takpan? We should normalize breastfeeding in public, yan ang naging mantra ko.

However, medyo game-changer itong si Cuddle Baby. Ang claim to fame niya is that it’s a nursing cover with an integrated cooling fan, perfect nga naman for the Philippine weather. That’s why I gave it a try with my 10-month-old baby, and here’s our verdict.

Cuddle Baby Nursing Cover with Fan Review

      1. Perfect siya for infants and even big babies.

Especially for the early months, mga first six months of breastfeeding, perfect ito, because it not only gives the mom privacy, but also comfort to the baby. Ito yung nursing cover na dadalhin mo during pedia check-ups and routine vaccines. Yung magagamit mo pag wala kang choice but to bring your baby in public places.

Medyo malaki na kasi ang aking baby boy, he’s 10 months old, pero kasyang-kasya pa din siya sa loob ng nursing cover.

using the nursing cover with fan with baby
Ang saya at kalmado niya sa loob. Hehe

“Bakit hindi nalang mag-Jisulife?” Pwede naman, but that will keep your hand busy, compared dito sa Cuddle Baby na built-in na yung fan. Secured ang fan with straps, at masinsin yung pagkakagawa. Yayakapin mo nalang si baby.

cuddle baby nursing cover with fan
      Secured ang fan sa loob.

Ramdam ko that Cuddle Baby was created with the best intentions to keep the baby cool and comfortable while nursing. So confirmed, it delivered its promise.

      2. It’s a pinag-isipang baby shower gift.

I’m the kind of person who gives gifts for the moms tuwing baby shower. Give ko na sa ibang tao yung toka na magregalo for the baby, but I make sure that my gift is always for the mom-to-be. I remember giving these gifts to my expecting mom friends: a comfy set of pajamas, breastfeeding tops, and malunggay supplements. More than ever, need ng padede moms ng support.

Cuddle Baby now adds to my list of pinag-isipan and walang-kaparehong gifts for moms-to-be. Sobrang ma-a-appreciate nila ito. Just choose among the three colors of the nursing cover, para mas tailor-fit kay mommy: there’s pink, green, and beige.

Wearing the Cuddle Baby nursing cover with fan

Nakaka-proud i-gift yung ganito because you are also supporting a starting mom-led business vs. a booming multinational company, hehe.

      3. Sulit for its price.

At its introductory price of P1,299, you would think ang pricey niya for a nursing cover. But when you see the actual product, sulit siya because of the materials – hindi tinipid and it’s lovingly made. The nursing cover is made of muslin cloth, which is lightweight at hindi mainit. The cooling fan looks like it’s good quality, and even has the cute Cuddle Baby branding.

Here’s the fan that comes with the nursing cover.

Hindi mukhang cheap, at ang ganda din ng pagkakatahi nung mga straps to keep the fan in place. Kumbaga, kita mong pinag-isipan at tinest ng madaming beses before they came up with the final product. Plus, it comes with a handy pouch para ipapasok mo nalang sa baby bag.

cuddle baby nursing cover with fan
      Cute pouch!

Not to mention that keeping your baby cool while breastfeeding is priceless. Yung natanggal mo na sa list of iisipin mo kung naiinitan ba siya or nakakahinga pa siya sa loob. Sus, take my money!

Best of all, it can be handed down to a mama friend, like how I received my first nursing cover, so sulit talaga siya for its price.

Bagong Nanay’s verdict on Cuddle Baby

For its price, design, and quality, I recommend Cuddle Baby for every Bagong Nanay who plans to and is breastfeeding their child. It’s a great baby shower gift for both mom and baby, and it’s made with the best intentions. This product makes a mom’s breastfeeding journey lighter (and cooler!) kaya naman we need support these kinds of products para mas tumagal pa and mas madami pang moms ang makagamit nito.

Kasi aside from making sure na cool and comfy si baby while breastfeeding, it also gives mom the confidence to wear any top she likes without having to sacrifice her style. Take it from me, na paulit-ulit na naka-breastfeeding clothes lang pag umaalis ng bahay. This nursing cover gives mom the ability to wear whatever top she likes, kasi sagot na ng Cuddle Baby yung privacy.

BAGONG NANAY SPECIAL PROMO: Mention niyo lang that you’ve learned about Cuddle Baby through Bagong Nanay, and you can purchase the item for their introductory price of P1,299. That’s less P200 of the regular price of P1,499. Yes – a promo exclusive to Bagong Nanay.

    7. Why Smurfs Movie Hits Hard as a Nanay

Why Smurfs Movie Hits Hard as a Nanay

For Bagong Nanay’s first gig, my daughter and I were invited to the Blue Carpet Screening of the Smurfs movie at the Gateway Cineplex 18. It was our first time to watch a movie at Gateway Mall in Cubao, and we had an amazing experience.

      Smurfs Movie (2025) Review

Without spoiling too many details, Smurfs movie delivered the fun and good vibes for kids, and the lessons and message for parents. Here are some of my takeaways from the movie, whether you plan to watch it or not.

      smurf movie 2025 review
Bagong Nanay at the Blue Carpet Screening of Smurfs at Gateway Cineplex 18

      1. It speaks to moms about the identity we lose to motherhood.

The first few minutes shows the first dilemma of the movie, where No Name wonders why he doesn’t have a thing that sets him apart from all the other Smurfs in the Village. To him, it seems like everyone has their own identity—there’s a Worrier Smurf, a Sound Effects Smurf, a Grumpy Smurf, among others. He feels frustrated and thinks he’s nothing special because of that.

As a mom, and I admit it, I sometimes feel like I don’t know myself anymore, especially when I can’t tie myself to a career or anything apart from motherhood. Life as a mom seems like it’s always on survival mode. Yet when we finally realize that our identity as a mom is actually irreplaceable, things just feel better.

Take it from the superstar and soon-to-be mom of three, Rihanna, who voiced Smurfette in the film.

      2. Our past doesn’t define us nor our present.

Smurfette reminds us of this truth, that what happened to us in the past doesn’t define what will happen to us in the future. If we come from a broken family, it doesn’t always follow that we’ll have a broken family too. There’s power in rising and overcoming, and from what the movie showed, we can use our scars and wounds from the past as motivation to be better.

      smurfette is rihanna
Smurfette is Rihanna at Smurfs 2025 movie!

      3. There’s power in coming together.

Just like how moms help each other when they have questions about their children’s health, school, or milestones, the Smurfs were stronger when they worked together to battle the dark forces. The movie shows that alone, we can only do so much, but if we put our heads and our hearts together, we can move mountains.

Moms may feel like every struggle they encounter each day is hard, but asking for help already makes the load a little lighter. I read somewhere that a mom needs at least one person whom she can be transparent with about her thoughts and feelings so she can thrive. If you don’t have this yet, maybe you can find it in a support group like the Bagong Nanay Community. Moms love to help their fellow moms because they are paying forward the help they once received.

      Smurfs Lessons for Kids

As for my 6-year-old daughter, she shared that she learned about the importance of telling the truth instead of lying, as well as the value of friendship.

      smurfs movie screening kids
My almost 6-year-old Lia at the Smurfs movie advanced screening

Smurfs is rated PG (Parental Guidance), and there are a lot of opportunities to teach your child lessons about honesty, trust, and self-worth throughout the movie. I highly recommend it for a one-on-one movie date with your child, or for a feel-good family movie time.

Smurfs is showing in theaters on July 16, 2025. Watch the trailer here.

    8. Bagong Nanay Reviews: Young Living Premium Starter Kit

Bagong Nanay Reviews: Young Living Premium Starter Kit

When I was pregnant with my first-born, I had trouble sleeping.

That’s why one of my closest friends gave me a lavender roller bottle.

I used it a lot, and it worked for me, especially on the day before I gave birth.

Since my waterbag broke, I had to keep my baby inside my womb for three days before it’s safe for her to come out.

I was given a lot of meds, which made me unable to sleep well.

The night before I gave birth, I had a really bad headache. But I cannot take paracetamol because I was taking other meds.

“Pwede po ba ang essential oil? Pakisabi po sa husband ko, pakikuha sa pouch ko.”

My lavender roller was among the things I packed in my hospital bag, and true enough, after inhaling it, I dozed off.

That was probably one of the most important sleeps I had because I need rest and energy for my CS operation the next day.

The operation went well, and my baby was also born healthy. Thanks to what helped me sleep the other night.

The thing is, that lavender roller was not a Young Living product.

And it’s not even a 100% pure essential oil. But it worked for me at a time I needed it most.

So what more if I try to use 100% pure essential oils by Young Living?

Young Living oils are of course, more expensive. But is it worth it?

Here are my thoughts when I finally got hold of a Young Living Premium Starter Kit.

      1. It is not for everyone.

      2. It is not easy to use.

      3. It will take a lot of your time.

      4. It is expensive.

      5. It will change your life.

Continue reading to find out why.

      Not for everyone

Watch me unbox my first Young Living Premium Starter Kit!
One of my ultimate #budolfinds in 2021

And it’s okay. Some love it, some hate it. Some cannot comprehend why there is a need for EOs, and some can’t live without it.

To each his own. YL products might be too pricey for some, but what’s good about it is that once you’ve tried it, you will always find a use for it.

My 2yo loves playing with the oils – of course with my supervision! She has memorized all the oils’ names and colors!

      It’s a learning journey.

Happy to be a member of Oil Matters PH!

Yes, you can just diffuse or inhale or use the oils topically, but when you become a member of a group that loves learning together, you will discover the many many uses and benefits of essential oils.

The group that I belong to has regular (and I mean everyday) classes that help you unlock what else you can do with oils.

It’s a learning journey, because there is a lot to love and to learn about it.

      Infinite possibilities

I didn’t know that I can use oils for a lot of things like cleaning the kitchen, or making an air freshener, or just cleaning the air!

I thought it was only used for diffusing so you can have good sleep.

Mandatory diffusing photo on the first night I got my PSK! Lavender + Stress Away blend for a good night’s sleep

Having a PSK at home, you can make roller blends, massage oils, and hygiene and cleaning products that are all-natural. Unlike vitamins that you will just take, or rejuv sets that you will just pahid on your face, the PSK is sobrang sulit, ikaw ang mapapagod sa dami nang pwede mong gawin!

You can make candles and soaps, or just add it to your all-natural facial wash or hair conditioner to spice things up!

Totoo yung sabi nila na every drop goes a long way!

I made this roller blend for my sisters who love to eat, and called it Mukbang! Peppermint + Digize + V6 oil

Best gift to give and receive

If you watched the unboxing video of my Premium Starter Kit, you can see from my face how amazed I was on how soshal and PREMIUM it is.

Pang-alta ang amoy and experience when you open it for the first time!

So if you are looking for a gift to someone who is extra special to you, say, your mom, sister, mother-in-law, boss, bestfriend, ninang, or tita, trust me, a Young Living Premium Starter Kit will not disappoint.

Lakas maka-sosyal! Every home should have this!

      Start of a healthier lifestyle

Pre-YL, I didn’t know that we have been using cleaners or medicines that contain harmful substances like formaldehyde or parabens.

But when I had one, I was able to make my own all-natural products that I know are safe for my child.

One time, I woke up with a stiff neck. I would usually use SalonPas and put it on my neck.

But because I don’t have SalonPas at home, and instead of going out to buy it, I used the After Workout Massage oil I made for my husband.

After Workout massage oil for my husband! Peppermint + Panaway + Frankincense + V6 oil

After two applications and massages on my neck area, no more pain!

Another time I had a terrible headache after a long day of Zoom meetings.

I put a drop of Frankincense EO on my palm and inhaled it.

I’ve always wanted to smell frankincense, and when I did, I cannot unsmell it!

My headache was gone in a snap.

I cannot believe it either. But yes, frankincense is an amazing oil that’s been praised for centuries for its benefits. I know that too because I used to work for a Canada-based company that sells 100% pure frankincense and myrrh products from Somalia. Check them out here.

Ever since I wanted our bathroom to smell good, so I created an air freshener! It has a faint smell that lasts for days, but better than panghi!

Easy DIY air freshener using Citrus Fresh and Lemon EOs + baking soda!

My husband who recently had colds, swear by inhaling and applying Peppermint EO on his chest.

He said it helped relieve his nose and sleep well. But I didn’t stop, I made an inhaler for him – Lavender, Peppermint, and Frankincense. I also make an LLPFC blend for him.

The list goes on! I tell you, it’s a life-changing experience.

My work essentials includes a bottle of Peppermint EO!

Are you also an oily nanay? What are your favorite oils? Or you want to try it too? Comment below, and let’s go through this oily journey – together! I can send you free samples or roller blends, if you want!
